Letter from the President

Dear Friends:

Kenneth J. Bialkin

Your support in the past year has been critical to the American Jewish Historical Society’s evolution as the leading institution for the study of the Jewish experience in this nation. Our new heqadquarters at the beautiful Center for Jewish History in New York City has brought our work to the attention of thousands of gallery visitors, program audiences and researchers.

Our academic operations in both New York and Waltham have never been busier. Our recently updated website, www.ajhs.org, is added to virtually every day and is considered the leading Internet resource in the field of American Jewish history. AJHS is also the sponsor of www.jewsinsports.org, a website about the history of American Jews in sports created by the Center for Advanced Technology at New York University. This encyclopedic site will provide information and entertainment for young and old alike.

We continue our collaborative efforts with the Hadassah Archives, the Gomez Foundation for Mill House and the American Society for Jewish Music. Recently, we formed an alliance with the Library of Congress, the National Archives and the Jacob Raider Marcus Center of the American Jewish Archives to plan activities to mark the 350th anniversary, in 2004, of the landing of the first permanent Jewish settlement in North America.

Our own Academic Council will also be planning a number of scholarly events in conjunction with the anniversary. The Society continues to extend its impact because thousands of individuals, businesses and foundations have been generous in their support. I want to thank each one of our trustees, members, donors, researchers, academic advisors and friends for their gifts of time, energy and financial support.

Sincerely,
Kenneth J. Bialkin,
President
