Photographic Collections

Photographic collections at the American Jewish Historical Society include historic photographs relating to the Jewish experience in America in the 19th and 20th century.

These photographs depict, for example, the efforts of immigrant aid organizations, Jewish businesses throughout the United States, Jewish chaplains and soldiers who served during WWI and WWII, Jewish community centers, orphanages, synagogues, the Lower East Side, and street scenes.

Portraits include images of Jewish Americans in politics, philanthropy, business, farming, religious ritual and everyday life.

Photographs may be viewed by appointment only.
