American Jewish History

American Jewish History is the official publication of the American Jewish Historical Society, the oldest national ethnic historical organization in the United States. The most widely recognized journal in its field, AJH focuses on every aspect of the American Jewish experience. Founded in 1892 as Publications of the American Jewish Historical Society and later published as American Jewish Historical Quarterly, AJH has been the journal of record in American Jewish history for over a century, bringing readers all the richness and complexity of Jewish life in America through carefully researched, thoroughly accessible articles. The journal is published quarterly in January, April, July, and October by Johns Hopkins University Press.

Sustaining members of the AJHS receive a subscription to American Jewish History. Click here to become a member. Institutions can also subscribe to the journal from the website of JHU Press' Journals Publishing Division.

Online access and back issues

JHU Press provides online access to American Jewish History from the year 1996 to the present through its subscription service, Project MUSE. Check with your library or institution to see if you have access. The American Jewish Historical Society has digitized the journal from 1892 through the year 1978; free access is available through ADAJE: The American Digital Archive of the Jewish Experience.

Please note: Due to a migration issue of Proquest’s website databases, those years of our “American Jewish History Publications” that are located in ProQuest will be temporarily off-line. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and are working to restore service as soon as possible.
